About Kindermusik Asia

Founded in 1995, Kindermusik Asia Pte. Ltd is the sole distributor of Kindermusik International's published materials for early childhood curricula in Singapore and Malaysia.

The first showcase studio was opened at Cold Storage Jelita in Singapore in August 1996. The studio was relocated to Tanglin Mall in 2001 to accomodate the growing number of students.

Today, Kindermusik Asia has more than 5000 children in its programs in Singapore. It employs over 40 qualified educators with a total staff strength of 51 personnel.

Besides its main studio at Tanglin Mall, Kindermusik Asia has entered into partnership with pre-schools, babycare / childcare centers, enrichment centers, dance studios and American Club. The aim is to make Kindermusik programs more accessible to families living in different parts of the island. There are now over 70 centers in Singapore where Kindermusik programs are available.

Profile : Goh Chiat Jin

Chiat is the Managing Director and founding member of Kindermusik Asia Pte Ltd. She has a deep interest in music all her life. Chiat attained a double degree in Bachelor of Arts and Music (piano performance) from the University of Washington, Seattle, USA with Neal O'Doan in 1983. She also studied vocal accompaniment and chamber music under Leonard Shure at the New England Conservatory in Boston, while completing her Master degree in piano performance at the Boston University with Professor Anthony DiBonaventura.

In 1986, she taught piano in Hong Kong and also became a mother. When she returned to Singapore in 1990, Chiat was looking for a suitable music program for her children but was unable to find any which met her requirements. She then began an extensive search for a quality early childhood music curricula worldwide which culminated in Kindermusik. She was so convinced of its superiority over the other curricula that she decided to make it into a business.

Since then, Ms Goh has been mentor to many educators in Asia Pacific, teaching them the skills required to be successful and effective Kindermusik teachers. In 1999 she attended her first Orff workshop and loved it so much she went on to complete the Graduate Diploma at the Australian Catholic Universtiy under Christoph Maubach. Her love for anything to do with Orff Schulwerk has led her to attend many Orff conferences worldwide, as well as a highly informative Jazz workshop with Doug Goodkin in San Francisco in the summer of 2002.

She now spends most of her time developing new educators, managing business partnerships, and marketing Kindermusik curricula in Singapore and Malaysia. Chiat's passion in Orff Schulwerk and her belief in the power of music has also seen her working with Alzheimer patients and children with epilepsy in her community work. She also conducts early childhood music and movement workshops with teachers in Yangon, Myanmar and Singapore.

Our Educators

Our educators and staff come from diverse backgrounds and professions ranging from pediatrician, early childhood lecturer, psychologist, nurses, school teachers to musicians. All our educators are certified in the Kindermusik Professional Training and the majority possess additional qualifications including at least Level 1 Orff Schulwerk certification (a music education approach that underpins the Kindermusik methodology).

Educators at Kindermusik Asia attend quarterly workshops and seminars to upgrade their musicianship and teaching skills, as well as learning new and progressive ideas in early childhood development. Most of our educators have been with the company for more than 6 years.

Our Studio

The Kindermusik studio is located at Tanglin Mall, a convenient one-stop shopping center with ample parking space. The studio is spacious and well equipped with an extensive range of musical instruments such as xylophones, variety of drums and percussion instruments, as well as a comprehensive sampling of multicultural instruments. It also carries a wide diversity of props and teaching aid and an extensive library of early childhood literature.
